Water Tower and HydroPark
The original water tower was called the Vernon Water Tank and was completed in 1921 and is at the cross section of several main water pipes. The second tank was built in 1962 and was completed the following year. I have not found a record of when this utility site also became a park. It seems to have been a gradual process. First it was called the Vernon Tank Playground and did not include a picnic area for fear of attracting noisy visitors. In the 1976 the play area was included in a Neighborhood Need Report that stated that all agreed that more teeter-totters were a necessary improvement. Sadly, there are no teeter-totters in the current Hydro Park. But one can find a community garden and picnic tables.
